We are seeking full or part time motivated and committed individuals to ‘champion’ the role of the Band 4 Assistant Practitioner on 9A, day shifts only but to include weekend working. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for professional development, career progression and a valuable opportunity for you to directly shape and define this new Band 4 role on 9A. You will become a proactive member of our nursing team.

We are a mixed surgical /gastroenterology ward caring for patients with a multitude of disorders of the gut and accessory organs. We have patients with simple problems such as appendectomy to patients requiring oesphagectomy. We treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease and those with liver and pancreatic failure as well as those with more simple problems such as cholecystitis.

We use the enhance recovery programme for our elective colorectal patients and will be introducing the same for our elective Upper GI patients in the near future.  The majority of our patients are emergency admissions and we also take step down patients from ICU/HDU.

We have a very diverse and experienced team of nurses who will help to mentor and develop you in your role. There is a full time practice educator in post who will be able to support you in your development of a wide range of clinical skills. Once trained and assessed as competent, you will be expected to work independently, within defined parameters of practice. You will act as role model for others to aspire to, promoting best practice and the delivery of high quality, patient centred care. 

You will hold, or be working towards, a Level 5 Qualification/Foundation Degree (or NARIC equivalent).

  • Posts in the Trust are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal spent and unspent convictions, reprimands, and cautions.                                     
  • Appointment to this role will commence at the lowest salary point unless confirmed otherwise by HR Employment Services (Recruitment, Administration & Terms and Conditions)
  • We may also use this advert to build our Bank staff. If you are unsuccessful at interview for a substantive role but meet the BSUH standards you may be offered a bank post.
